Pressure sensors

Well-equipped pressure transmitters for all requirements. Precise measurement for reliable control and monitoring.

Pressure transmitters (also known colloquially as pressure sensors) are used in the field of pressure measurement for the reliable measurement and monitoring of pressure. As part of pressure measurement, they convert mechanical pressure into electrical signals and can thus precisely detect changes in pressure and output them as an analogue or digital output signal.

Pressure transmitters are therefore pressure sensors with integrated signal processing that convert the measured pressure into a defined electrical output signal with a defined signal range, whereas pure pressure sensors generally only provide an undefined signal that is not calibrated to a specific value range. Discover our wide range of pressure transmitters, which are specific to the respective industry and produced for you according to individual requirements.

What types of pressure transmitters are there?

At ADZ NAGANO, you can find pressure sensors such as differential pressure sensors, absolute pressure sensors or relative pressure sensors. Which type of pressure transmitter you choose depends on your requirements in terms of

  • the measuring method
  • the measuring range
  • the accuracy and
  • the range of application

For example, if low pressures of up to 40 bar are to be measured, different pressure sensors are needed than for high-pressure applications. High-pressure transmitters are used for high-pressure applications where pressures of up to 5000 bar can occur. The measuring environment and the test media also influence the properties that the corresponding pressure sensors must have - for example, there are special hydrogen sensors and high-temperature pressure transmitters designed for particularly intense heat. Even if you require an increased protection version with explosion protection, you will find the suitable pressure transmitters with explosion protection in our product range. Also discover our very wide variety of possible components for mechanical and electrical connections and the various signal outputs (analogue and digital, e.g. CAN, Bluetooth, USB).

What do pressure sensors measure?

Depending on the pressure sensor, absolute pressure, relative pressure or differential pressure are measured. There are also transmitter models in which pressure and temperature can be measured at the same time. Pressure sensors or pressure transmitters can be used to measure pressures in various media. These include

  • gaseous media such as air, oxygen or hydrogen,
  • liquids such as oil, water, chemicals or fuels,

How does a pressure sensor work?

A pressure sensor consists of a base body and a membrane that can be deformed by pressure. When the pressure transducer (sensor) receives the mechanical pressure acting on the membrane and deforms it, the electrical resistance of the components connected to the membrane changes due to the piezoresistive effect. The change in resistance is then converted by a suitable electronic system into an electrical signal that is further processed and can be read by a regulator or control unit to be displayed or controlled.

How does it differ to a pressure transmitter?

Pressure transmitters are also called pressure transducers and, in contrast to pure pressure sensors, provide a standardised signal. This makes it easier for it to be interpreted and processed by devices or systems. Pressure sensors, (also called pressure transducers), are part of the pressure transmitter and the core of the pressure measuring device.

Where are pressure sensors used?

Pressure sensor application areas are diverse and include industries such as railway technology, on-and off-road vehicle technology, aerospace, medical and environmental technology, as well as marine or mechanical engineering.

In the industrial sector, pressure sensors are used, for example, to monitor pneumatic and hydraulic systems to ensure the safe operation of plant and machinery. Medical pressure sensors can be used in blood pressure monitors, respirators, anesthesia machines, gas supply and other medical applications. The weight of transported cargo, air conditioning, oil pressure or brake pressure can be examined by pressure sensors in vehicle technology, optimising safety, efficiency and performance.
