CAN bus sensor: Transmitter for pressure and temperature

A CANopen sensor is a modern measuring device that can record physical quantities such as pressure or temperature and transmit them digitally via the CANopen standard. The CAN bus technology is based on the international ISO standard 11898 and enables the fast and interference-free transmission of measurement data. CANopen itself is a globally standardized transmission protocol that enables unified and easy access to measurement data by using standardized device profiles. The certification of the CANopen protocol ensures the compatibility of our sensors with other CANopen controllers and facilitates the integration of the pressure transmitters into existing systems. 

How a CANopen sensor works

A modern CANopen sensor uses digital measurement data transmission to ensure high resolution of the data. First, the analog measured value is recorded by the sensor and converted into digital data. In this digital range, errors are corrected by linearization and temperature compensation, making a precise and stable measurement possible. This is followed by direct transmission via the CAN bus – this avoids conversion losses. The high transmission rate of up to 1 Mbit/s enables fast data transmission in millisecond intervals and ensures precise control and control of your processes. 

Difference between CANopen and J1939

Our sensors support both the CANopen and J1939 protocols, two globally recognized transmission protocols based on the CAN standard. While CANopen is often used as a digital pressure sensor in industrial applications, such as in the process industry or mechanical engineering, J1939 is mainly used in commercial vehicle technology. For example, J1939 is ideal for monitoring in trucks, construction vehicles or agricultural machinery. Both protocols are internationally standardized and offer reliable data transmission, while J1939 convinces with additional functions for identifying the measuring point within the machine.
