What are pressure and temperature sensors?

Combined pressure and temperature sensors are devices that measure both pressure and temperature in one system, i.e. combine pressure transmitters and temperature transmitters. These sensors provide important data for monitoring and controlling processes in industrial applications. Pressure and temperature transmitters can be equipped with either an internal or an external temperature sensor, which affects their operation and applications. 

How do pressure-temperature sensors work?

These sensors record the measured variables pressure and temperature and convert them into standardized electrical output signals. These can be analogue or digital. 

Three different sensor elements can be used to measure temperature: NTC thermistors, PTC thermistors and thermocouples. NTC thermistors are temperature-dependent resistors whose value decreases as the temperature increases. PTC thermistors are temperature-dependent resistors whose value increases with increasing temperature. Well-known sensors are Pt100 and Pt1000. These are characterized by the fact that a defined characteristic curve applies due to the materials used, the temperature is measured here by means of a resistor. 

ADZ NAGANO prefers to use Pt elements, but the temperature signal can also be adjusted for you so that it fits your individual needs.  

The pressure is measured by means of membrane deformation. This changes the resistances on the diaphragm and converts them into an electrical output signal. 

What is the advantage of combining pressure and temperature sensors?

Combined transmitters save space and costs by combining two measurands in one device. This not only simplifies installation and maintenance, but also improves data consistency because both parameters are measured under the same conditions. The combination of pressure and temperature sensors thus enables more efficient process monitoring and reduces the need for several separate transmitters.

What pressure and temperature transmitters does ADZ NAGANO offer?

  • Combined pressure and temperature transmitters with external temperature sensor (TPSE):  The external sensor is attached directly to the bottom of the sensor, no extra cable is required. It is in direct contact with the medium and is available in different lengths. The sensor can thus be protected from extreme conditions while the external probe takes the measurements. 
  • Combined pressure and temperature transmitters with internal temperature sensor (TPSI):  The internal temperature sensor, on the other hand, is usually integrated on a circuit board or it sits in a small hole in the sensor. It measures the heating of the sensor without having direct contact with the medium itself.
