A miniature force sensor is a high-precision measuring device that works like a piezoresistive force sensor according to the piezoresistive principle. However, its compact design makes it particularly suitable for applications where installation space must be reduced and weight minimized. These sensors convert mechanical forces into electrical signals, enabling accurate and reliable force measurement.
A miniature force sensor, or miniature force transducer or force transmitter, works according to the piezoresistive principle. This principle is based on the property of certain materials to change their electrical resistance when exposed to mechanical voltages.
Our miniature force sensors consist of a spring body equipped with resistors. These resistors are integrated into a Wheatston measuring bridge. When force is applied to the miniature force transducer, the spring body is deformed. This deformation leads to an expansion or compression of the individual resistors.
The mechanical deformation changes the electrical resistance of the piezoresistive material. This change in resistance is detected by the Wheatston measuring bridge and converted into a proportional analog output signal. The result is a precise measurement of the applied force that can be monitored in real time.
